Frankincense is derived from the gummy sap that oozes out of the Boswellia Sacra trees when their bark is cut. The leaking resin hardens and is scrapped off the trunk in tear shape droplets; it may then be used in its dried form or steamed to yield essential oils.

Myrrh is a natural gum or resin extracted from a number of small, thorny tree species of the genus Commiphora. Myrrh resin has been used throughout history as a perfume, incense, and medicine.

HISTORY OF OMANI FRANKINCENSE
Frankincense starts as a resinous sap inside a special family of trees (Boswellia Sacra) that grow almost exclusively in the southern end of the Arabian Peninsula. At certain times of year these trees are cut with special knives, and the sap oozes out. Once the sap has dried in the sun, it is ready to be used. Harvested frankincense is burned as incense because of its pleasing aromas, but historically it had a number of other uses as well:
1. Almost all frankincense comes from western Oman, where it is used for everything from deodorant and toothpaste to food and drink flavoring.
2. As frankincense grows almost exclusively in Oman, it has been a vital part of the Omani culture for millennia.
3. Frankincense was so expensive in Europe that southern Arabia became known as Arabia Felix, “Arabia the Blessed.”
4. As frankincense was in high demand from Europe to Asia, the kingdoms of southern Arabia became an integral part of global economy with shipping connections to India, the Mediterranean and the Silk Road.
5. The Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, Israelites and numerous other cultures used frankincense as part of their religious ceremonies.

Frankincense starts as a resinous sap inside a special family of trees (Boswellia Sacra) that grow almost exclusively in the southern end of the Arabian Peninsula. At certain times of year these trees are cut with special knives, and the sap oozes out. Once the sap has dried in the sun, it is ready to be used. Harvested frankincense is burned as incense because of its pleasing aromas, but historically it had a number of other uses as well:
1. Almost all frankincense comes from western Oman, where it is used for everything from deodorant and toothpaste to food and drink flavoring.
2. As frankincense grows almost exclusively in Oman, it has been a vital part of the Omani culture for millennia.
3. Frankincense was so expensive in Europe that southern Arabia became known as Arabia Felix, “Arabia the Blessed.”
